Conference Summary
This year’s 2010 Grassroots Annual Leadership and Legislative Conference will be an event to be remembered! Continuing the Grassroots tradition, this year’s conference will provide component presidents and presidents-elect, component executives and component staff, members of the national board of directors, member communities and member group leaders, emerging professionals, AIA national staff, and other member groups with opportunities for continuing education, networking, advocacy, celebrations, leadership skills development and knowledge sharing among members and groups within the AIA family.

AIA leaders will participate in numerous networking activities with peers; advocate the AIA’s legislative agenda on Capitol Hill; share your experiences and challenges through session; articulate your ideas and positions during the Member Congress; and more.

The AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) and its Top Ten Green Projects awards program recognize the benefits of sustainable design and acknowledge architects as leaders in the creation of environmentally responsible design solutions.

COTE encourages architects and their teams to submit their projects for the Top Ten design competition. Now in its 14th year, the program is one of the best known sustainable design recognition programs in the nation. Winning projects will be recognized with an AIA COTE award certificate and acknowledged in the national press, on the AIA Web site, and at the AIA National Convention and Design Expo in June 2010.

ASSISTANT LECTURER POSITION IN ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING

The University of Wyoming’s Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering invites applications for an Assistant Lecturer position in Architectural Engineering with an emphasis on Architecture.

Applicants are sought with professional experience and teaching interests in Architectural Design and Building Information Modeling. Specialization in an area such as energy modeling or construction management is welcome. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Architecture, advise students, and pursue research or creative endeavors. Teaching excellence is the principal emphasis. The Assistant Lecturer position, although not a tenure-track position, is a permanent benefitted position with an annual reappointment process and potential for promotion after six years.

UW’s Architectural Engineering Program is one of seventeen such ABET-accredited programs in the nation, and recipient of a 2008 AIA award for Building Information Modeling. It has approximately 200 undergraduate students and a graduate program being developed. The University of Wyoming is a thriving research university located in Laramie, Wyoming (pop. 28,000), 130 miles northwest of Denver.

Laramie is a picturesque and friendly town offering a reasonable cost of living and easy access to outdoor activities in the Rocky Mountain region. Required qualifications:
• M.Arch. or equivalent
• Professional architectural or construction management experience or equivalent

Review of applications will begin January 11, 2010 and continue until the position is filled. The position begins August 2010.
