TakeAway Quotes: Notes from the Saturday Morning session. An open discussion the "morning after" led by facilitator, Jonathan Schechter, participants were each asked to share what one thing will they "take-away" from the workshop, related to discussed topics, speaker presentations & roundtables. And, How would they use the information once they got back to their respective communities, especially if they were not from Jackson.

Common Goals are shared across the state...

Resorts are actually on the decline and the reality of "lifestyle economy" is what is really driving our community growth.

Good Design is really a collaborative effort...of designers, community leaders & process, client and citizen...

Teton county is blessed by the quality of people and level of involvement by the people living here...

"Affordable" really is different in different places...

The basic Good Design Principles remain what they've always been.

Get involved...Ye Architects!

Good Design Issues are ever-lasting issues.

Jonathan Schechter's Data was instructive.

Jackson is not as special or unique...(as it thinks).

The intergovernmental harmony (in Teton county & Jackson) is great.

Architects need to work together more closely...to define and watch the issues/process.

Our communities MUST utilize Downtowns...MUST make them vibrant and self reliant.

Celebrate and understand your Community's evolving character!

We all are looking for a NICE PLACE to Live.

Good Design...Its more than just designing a pretty building.

Community Participation is wonderful, AND important.

Architects need to be involved in Design Regulation development to help create an atmosphere encouraging good design.

Architects involvement CAN lead to a better community

Use your knowledge & skills (as an architect) to educate your community

Be smart about Big Picture & Context

Bring your sensibilities (as a designer) to the broader community

The information we need, is likely already available.

Wyoming has a chance to do it right. Its incumbent upon architects to seize that opportunity!

Challenge yourself to get involved in the meatiest issues!

Architects skills really do mirror those of electeds...big picture thinking, power of observation, descriptive speech, ability to see appropriate fight/compromise...etc.

In an era of Lifestyle Economics, Architects can make come an invaluable contribution to a community!

Knowledge & Passion is a powerful and necessary combination

Its incumbent on us (as architects) to recognize and enhance our community's (character).

We can and must learn from each other.

Honor our links to the Land

We cant achieve good design in our communities if our communities don't understand what good design is.

Don't be afraid to say what's wrong; Don't be afraid to put forth a positive vision!

We have an opportunity and challenge to it right!
